Kinesys automation

Kinesys is an automation and motion-control system used to move scenery, lighting, cameras, LED screens, performers, and other stage or studio elements with precision. Originally developed for live entertainment and now part of TAIT, Kinesys systems are also widely used in film and television productions where repeatable, programmable movement is required.

In film and TV, Kinesys is not just about about special effects. kinesys also allows for safe, repeatable, computer-controlled movement that can be synchronised with cameras, lighting, and visual effects.

we as a company offer the full kinesys service, from planning and system specification, to setup, operation and programming. we offer both elevation and apex systems as a whole, as well as variable speed hoists in the rigger 8 handheld setup.

Apex Hoist & Drive

Kinesys Apex is the next generation of Kinesys variable-speed automation, developed to build on the success of the Elevation platform while meeting newer international safety standards. Although the two systems operate in a similar way from an operator’s perspective, Apex introduces significant improvements in safety, performance, diagnostics, and hoist technology

Kinesys developed Apex to meet modern entertainment automation requirements while supporting applications that may include movement over people and performer flying where the complete engineered system is designed and approved for that purpose. Compared with earlier systems, Apex includes features such as:

  • SIL3 safety architecture

  • Integrated load cells

  • Dual position encoders

  • Silent dual-monitored brakes

  • Precision speed and position control

  • Real-time diagnostics and monitoring

  • Safety-over-Ethernet communication

Elevation drive - Vector

The Kinesys Elevation system is a variable-speed motion control platform widely used in concerts, theatre, television, and Film. At the heart of the system are Kinesys Elevation Drives, winch control specially converted Liftket (Stageket) chain hoists. Together, they provide smooth, programmable lifting with precise positioning and integrated safety monitoring.

A standard industrial Liftket chain hoist normally operates at a fixed speed. Kinesys modifies selected Liftket hoists by adding components that allow them to be controlled by an Elevation Drive, transforming them into entertainment-grade variable-speed hoists.

The conversion includes:

  • Encoder for accurate position feedback

  • Double braking system

  • Four-position limit switches

  • Entertainment-specific electrical connections

  • Integration with the Kinesys Elevation control system

Elevation drive -rigger 8

The Kinesys Rigger 8 is a handheld controller designed for the manual operation of Kinesys Elevation variable-speed hoists. It provides a simple and familiar interface for riggers during setup, commissioning, focusing, and maintenance, allowing operators to move hoists without needing a computer running Vector. The handset is intended primarily for setup operations, not for running live show cues unless this is specifically permitted by the production’s risk assessment.

What is the Rigger 8?

The Rigger 8 is an 8-channel handheld pendant that connects directly to the Kinesys Elevation system via a single 7-pin XLR cable carrying both power and data. When connected, it automatically detects compatible Elevation Drives on the network, allowing quick selection and control of connected hoists.
